Last night was the second night of AUMC hosting the four families who are being helped out of homelessness through Family Promise. Thanks to all the set-up people, the cooks, drivers, chaperones, hosts and particularly Katie Vigil who is there almost all the time. There were four kids under the age of five, including three two-year olds. Can you imagine sleeping in a car or worse with your two year old last night? The support you provide is greatly appreciated. One of our youth is working on her Gold Award for Girls Scouts. She's taking on the task of helping house a family at the church down the road. If you are interested in helping by supplying some of the things she needs, contact youth director [email protected] and she'll help connect you.

Things are cooking at AUMC...Come and enjoy a Kenyan lunch after the 10 am service on Sunday, May 5. You will taste several East African dishes, including Kenyan beef stew with chapatis, and mandazis for dessert. The dinner will be prepared by Hyline Meshack and other members from AUMC. Funds from the lunch will be used to purchase another milk cow for the widows of the Reformed United Methodist Church Kenya.

Words of hope from Bishop Karen: "On Friday, April 26, 2019, the Judicial Council released its decisions regarding General Conference 2019. While parts of the Traditionalist Plan were found unconstitutional, the parts that remain are an affront to many in our annual conference who have had the experience of receiving God’s love through the lives and ministries of LGBTQ people. The mandatory penalties belie the grace that has always been a foundation of our United Methodist tradition, which expressed itself in seeking just resolution and reconciliation rather than legalistic rules and punishments. As your bishop, I will continue to ensure that all people who seek to follow Jesus—regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, abilities, ethnicity, theological orientation, class, or language spoken will continue to find a safe home in our Mountain Sky churches. Jesus told his followers, “You shall know them by their fruits.” I will continue to appoint clergy on the basis of their faithfulness to God’s call and the fruits their ministry bears. I will continue to support all our churches, no matter where they are on the theological spectrum, and seek to ensure that our conference resources are used to help them be vital mission outposts, sharing the life-giving, life-changing love of Christ with their communities in tangible ways."
